What is the Indian Medical Attendant e-Visa?

The Indian Medical Attendant Visa is an e-Visa that allows nurses, helpers, and family members to accompany a patient traveling to India for medical treatment. This visa is directly linked to and dependent on the patient’s Indian Medical e-Visa, meaning it can only be applied for once the patient’s Medical e-Visa has been approved. It enables up to two attendants to travel with the patient, ensuring that they receive proper care and support during their treatment in India.

Eligibility and Validity:

  • Family members accompanying a patient to India for medical treatment are eligible for the Indian Medical Attendant Visa.
  • The visa is valid for 60 days from the date of entry into India.
  • It can be obtained up to three times per year.
  • A maximum of two Medical Attendant Visas are granted against one Indian Medical e-Visa.

Requirements:

  • A copy of the first (biographical) page of the visitor’s passport, valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into India.
  • A recent passport-style colour photograph.

  • Details of the Medical e-Visa holder being accompanied, including their name, visa number or application ID, passport number, date of birth, and nationality.
  • Proof of a return or onward ticket out of the country.

Application Process:

  • Apply for the Indian Medical Attendant Visa at least 4–7 days before your flight or date of entry into India.
  • Ensure your passport has two blank pages for the Immigration Officer to stamp at the airport.
  • Enter and exit India only through the approved Immigration Check Posts, which include 28 airports and 5 seaports.
  • The Indian e-Visa Online Application Form is simple and straightforward to complete.

Please note that if you are not travelling to India for medical purposes, you will need to apply for a different type of visa, such as the Indian Tourist e-Visa. It is important to choose the correct visa category based on the purpose of your visit to avoid any issues during your travel or at immigration.
